Owen Hizzey and Venture Engineering Achieve Stunning Victory in Barcelona 24H 2024

What an extraordinary weekend it has been! We are thrilled to announce that Owen Hizzey and his team have achieved an incredible victory at the 2024 Barcelona 24H, a remarkable triumph that has left everyone in awe.

Initially, the team approached this race as a trial to evaluate whether the championship might be a suitable pursuit for Neville and Chris in 2025. With anticipation and high hopes, we took to the track and qualified in a strong P4 position. This gave us confidence in our pace, although it was clear that the Ginetta and BMW were formidable contenders with a pace that seemed unbeatable during the day.

As the race unfolded, we maintained our P4 position for a significant portion of the event. However, a strategic driver change saw the Ginetta lose considerable pace, allowing us to advance to P3. With only the BMW ahead of us, and just before the 12-hour mark, we moved into P2. Chris, Neville, and Matt delivered amazing performances, propelling us into this strong second position. It seemed that P1 was out of reach, with the BMW holding a comfortable lead.

But then came the final hour of the race, a dramatic turn of events that showcased the brilliance of our team’s strategy department. Due to this, we managed to stay just one lap down from the leading BMW. Then, fortune struck as the BMW encountered fuel pickup issues, a challenge we had previously faced ourselves, causing them to lose crucial time. This unexpected development thrust us into contention for the lead.

In a thrilling finale, the BMW regained its momentum just as Matt executed a daring overtake. What followed was an intense battle, with Matt expertly defending our position against a hard-charging BMW. His exceptional driving skills ensured that we retained our lead, and to everyone’s amazement, we crossed the finish line in P1 after 24 hours of gruelling competition in the GT4 category.
